While traveling in the beautiful country of New Zealand, I photographed this incredible lenticular cloud on Mt. Cook. Mt. Cook is located on the South Island in Mt. Cook National Park. Lenticular clouds are formed on the downwind side of mountains when stable moist air flows over them. If the temperature at the crest of the mountain drops below the dew point, moisture in the air may condense to form lenticular clouds. Since New Zealand is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, lenticular clouds are acommon, incredible occurrence.
